We want to provide an update regarding the current impacts around product availability within the Food Service industry. The current supply chain conditions are some of the most challenging the industry has faced in quite a while.

Below is a summary of what is driving delays to product availability.

Flood Impacts

Infrastructure damage has been caused by the recent flooding, especially to the main transportation routes between Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, in which a significant amount of finished goods is normally shipped to Brisbane from these southern locations.

The damage is extensive and covers main roads and rail networks up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia. This damage is causing significant delays to the movement of raw materials and finished products, and will likely continue to be experienced in the short term.

COVID-19 Impacts

The pandemic continues to provide significant challenges and pressures for manufacturers around:

  • Timely availability of raw materials (both domestic and imported) for manufacturers to produce finished goods for distribution
  • Production volumes and availability of transportation for distribution of goods continues to be severely impacted by lower-than-normal staffing levels, shipping container shortages and shipping route availability internationally, and truck and rail availability domestically

It is challenging to predict when the global supply chain will return to a more normalised state. Rest assured, we are working hard to deliver customer-focused solutions in the interim.
